Say no more, mon amour! This week, we’re going back to the 90s and the music stores that shaped us. With a breakout cast, sharp dialogue and a soundtrack most movies would kill for, we look at this cult classic that only made it two weeks in the theater but still gets recognized every year on Rex Manning Day (April 8th, mark your calendars!). It’s the legacy of Empire Records.

And this week’s bonus top 10 list is Jonathan’s Top 10 Movie Soundtracks. This celebrates the music in the film (whether or not it appeared on the album that was released).

10. Reality Bites (featuring Juliana Hatfield Three, Lisa Loeb, Crowded House, the Knack, Ethan Hawke [!])

09. Garden State (featuring The Shins, Iron & Wine, Colin Hay, Remy Zero, Coldplay, Simon & Garfunkel)

08. Pulp Fiction (featuring Maria McKee, Urge Overkill, Al Green, Chuck Berry, Dick Dale, Dusty Springfield)

07. Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 (all the Guardians movies have great soundtracks, but this one is tops for me because of how great the songs are AND how well the songs work in the movie)(featuring The Flaming Lips, The Mowgli’s, Florence and the Machine, Alice Cooper, Radiohead, Spacehog)

06. Empire Records (featuring Dire Straits, The Cranberries, Gin Blossoms, Better than Ezra, The Ape Hangers, AC/DC, Dishwalla, Throwing Muses, Edwyn Collins, Cracker)
