The Bride

In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change.

Here is my thought process (aka brain attack) while watching The Bride:

What the hell is this?

I don’t like this.

Wait…maybe I like this.

THIS IS AMAZING.

THIS IS AWFUL.

What is happening.

No. No. No.

Wait, maybe yes.

What the hell.

WOW.

Nope.

I left the theater not even sure how I felt. I know I loved some parts (beautifully shot, Jessie Buckley is next-level unhinged) and not liking other parts (too many things don’t make a lot of sense, and some choices are just baffling), but regardless Maggie Gyllenhaal’s second feature (after the phenomenal The Lost Daughter) is bold, ambitious, stunning, and somewhat messy.
