A newly sober man’s Christmas Eve dental emergency leads to an unexpected romance with his older dentist as they explore Baltimore together.
The indie film, Baltimorons is a heartfelt, sweet little movie that will get you into the spirit of the Holidays, no matter when you watch it! The story revolves around just two main characters in the 24hr period spanning Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was written together by Michael Strassner and Jay Duplass, the latter who also directed the film. Strassner, no slacker himself, also plays the endearing lead, Cliff.
While going with his girlfriend to her parents’ home for Christmas Eve dinner, Cliff trips and knocks out his tooth, making him seek out the only dentist open in Baltimore on Christmas Eve – Dr. Didi. Didi’s own Christmas Eve plans get cancelled when her ex-husband decides to get remarried that day, making their only daughter and her family cancel on Didi in order to attend the reception. While getting his temporary tooth implanted, Cliff learns of Didi’s situation, and after she helps him get his car out of the impound lot, he offers to take her out to Christmas Eve dinner as a thank you, marking the start of their time together. In the ensuing misadventures of this May December couple, we, the audience, find out about Cliff’s struggles, laugh at his self-deprecating humor, and begin to fall for the amiable, mischievous teddy-bear of a man. Cliff also manages to bring out the spontaneous, fun side of Didi, as she becomes his accomplice throughout the night. And it certainly is an eventful one in Baltimore, just not one filled with the best decisions. However, as the movie ends mere hours into Christmas Day, we are left wishing the unlikely couple the best of luck.
