The Naked Gun

Only one man has the particular set of skills – to lead Police Squad and save the world.

Look, I laughed. Probably more than I even expected to. But that doesn’t mean this isn’t a really dumb movie. But what else would you expect from a Naked Gun movie? This one is helmed by Akiva Schaffer of Lonely Island fame, and has about as much weight to it as an SNL skit. But I did laugh.

Liam Neeson is Frank Drebin, Jr. son of Leslie Nielsen’s dim bulb cop from the original Police Squad and Naked Gun movies. Paul Walter Hauser is his partner. Pamela Anderson is his femme fatale Beth. Danny Huston is the bad guy. There’s visual gags, audio gags, gags on gags. Some work. Some don’t. But enough worked to keep me laughing. And enough didn’t to make me forget about most of the movie a week later. Anderson is really great though and has a real penchant for comedy, and using her blonde bombshell aura for ridiculousness.
